Keeping members up to date with the latest news and events at Sedlescombe

Dear Sedlescombe Members,

What a wonderful week of glorious summer sunshine, making Easter 2019 one to remember. Despite the soaring temperatures, our talented head green-keeper (Tony Parris) and his team continues to maintain our course at Sedlescombe in top condition, making it one of the best courses in play in the area. We had a record day last Saturday and the Jolly Scollay was doing a brisk trade in cold drinks!

We have lots of exciting events coming up at the Club, so keep an eye on this blog page on the new website and our emails for what's going on over the next couple of months.

Seniors friendly V Tenterden (home) 18.4.19

Our seniors team played a friendly against Tenterden last Thursday and had a fantastic win of 5-1. We were represented by Ron Treggidon (Captain), Chris Wilson, Chris Lofts, Phil Warren, John Eveleigh, Malcolm Ettinger, Paul Greenaway, Andy Hales, John Crisford, Roger Cole, John Legg and Patrick Glynn

Ian Murray from Tenterden got a hole in 1 on the 10th.

Senior Men’s Team v Eastbourne Downs (away) on 23.4.19

Our Senior Mens' Team took on a very strong Eastbourne Downs side at their beautiful course set in the rolling hillside outside Eastbourne. We were represented by Ray Turvey (Seniors' Captain), Mo Almassi, Paul Greenaway, John Legg, John Eveleigh, Chris Lofts, Malcom Ettinger, John Crisford, Pat Martin, Ron Treggiden, Andy Hales and Chris Wilson (Captain for the Day). Many of our side had not played the course before - making the task doubly difficult. The format was fourball, better-ball matchplay with handicaps set at 90% of the difference against the lowest handicap in the group. After a close fought match Eastbourne eventually prevailed in three games, Sedlescombe in one and two games were halved: producing an overall victory by 4 – 2 to the home side.

Special congratulations go to Paul Greenaway and John Legg for winning their game and we look forward to entertaining Eastbourne Downs (and hopefully gaining revenge!) in the home fixture in September.

The Spring Meeting Cup - this exciting competition is played as a ‘medal’ so all the strokes are counted and then one’s handicap taken from the total at the end .

Lizi has been playing very well this year and was also presented with the winter eclectic cup which is awarded for the lowest scores achieved on the first 9 holes during a maximum of 15 rounds. All the lowest scores for each hole are added together and half the handicap subtracted as it is only 9 holes. Today’s medal competition was again won by Lizi!

We have been very lucky with the weather on Wednesdays and only one competition at the beginning of March was cancelled and still 15 ladies braved the elements when normally between 25-28 compete each week.

Lizi and Sue McGavin are enjoying success in the Daily Mail Foursomes have played two knockout matches so far and are arranging their third.

Congratulations to Julie Ashenden who made her first hole in one on the 3rd hole on Wednesday 24th April. Unfortunately she then went on to blob the next hole. Maybe it was the excitement. Well done Julie!

The Sedlescombe Golf Club website is steadily growing in content and our visiting photographer has put together some great images of the club so you should see a number of new photographs appearing on the website over the next few weeks. Some of the them are now on the tables in the Spike Bar so if you would like copies, please let us know which one you'd like and we'll email it to you.

The restaurant is increasingly busy so we are now taking members' bookings for this Sunday's roast. As always, we look forward to your support.
