In the Pro Shop our excitement is very much focused on the Callaway Tour Truck Day on Saturday 6th April. This really is a great opportunity to experience a Tour Pros weekly luxury and benefit from the expertise of the best club fitters and club builders in the business. These guys are guaranteed to put yardage on your best drive.

Other news sees Cleveland wedges arriving in the shop. Cleveland has always been at the forefront of wedge design and we are offering a great promotional offer of a guaranteed trade in of £25 on ANY old wedges when you buy a .588 RTX wedge.

James and I are also working extremely hard on the club diary and membership for next year with some exciting events on the way and will be looking for a huge push in the social and competitive areas within the club.

In Spikes Bar & Greens Ben has settled in seamlessly and the new Spring Menu has been launched with some great new dishes on offer. Remember your member’s card entitles you to 15% discount on all food and beverage purchases so no excuse not to give the menu a go.

The US Masters begins on Thursday 11th April which brings signals the golfing season is finally upon us. Each night full coverage of the event will be shown in Spikes Bar with a variety of bar games and banter alongside a lovely looking Tapas menu making it a great opportunity to watch one of golf’s best events with fellow golfers.

In competition play the club had a great win in the first round of the Mail on Sunday against Cooden Beach. It’s always nice to get one over on a local club. The draw for the Optimus Trophy (previously PAVit) first and second rounds are held this month as well as the seniors playing in the Cyril Blake against Pycombe Golf Club. The ladies have also been in action and had a hard fought win at home to Dale Hill Golf Club. The early season results are providing promising signs of a successful year for the club on all fronts.

The big news is that on Saturday 6th April the Callaway tour truck will be coming to the club for the biggest fitting day to be held in the South of England in 2013. This is the actual truck that goes around the world with the top Callaway Golf Staff players with the guys on board who fit clubs for the likes of Phil Mickleson and Ernie Els. On site we will have 3 fitters using state of the art launch monitors with every conceivable club set up here to try. This is an amazing opportunity for the club and local area to make the most of the first class service that Tour Players experience week in week out. The day will run from 10 – 4, to book your appointment see the staff in the Pro Shop.

In the Pro Shop the full range of Nike, Callaway and Mizuno is now in stock with a full range of demonstration clubs available to use. Please come and see us if you are looking to purchase any new equipment or have any questions about your current set and its suitability to your game. We face a constant battle with online retailers and are often extremely competitive when it comes to price and massively superior when it comes to service and respecting the needs of our customers. Your support is extremely valuable and important to us.

Greens Restaurant has a great looking menu prepared for Mothers Day on Sunday 10th March. I have a table booked myself and am looking forward to a carving our own joint of roast beef. Some tables are still available but book soon to avoid disappointment.

In competition play huge recognition should go to Martin Hawkins and Blair Veakins for their sensational performance in the Pairs Betterball event at the end of February. 53 points is an unbelievable score, although rumour has it that the handicap authorities are watching them very closely now. Hopefully we will start to see the entry numbers increase now the weather has started to warm up and the season moves into full swing. The competitions of note this month are the St Patricks Day competition on Saturday 17th and Easter Mixed Greensomes which takes place on Sunday 31st.

We came to the club on valentine’s day

It’s the third time we’ve celebrated this way

I’d like to pay tribute to the talented chef

He did a good job it must be said

I’d go further than that it was just perfection

10 courses in all and what a selection!

Our tastebuds were teased and tantilised

Delicate flavours AND a feast for our eyes

Prawns, fish, figs, sorbet, chocolate, asparagus cappuccino in a glass

If a certificate was called for I’d give it a PASS

and if that wasn’t sufficient a cheeseboard selection

If I may repeat – it was just perfection.

With dates and chutney, walnuts and fruit

It warrants a mention in a “foody” book

Washed down with a red glass of port

Completed a meal which I couldn’t fault

The accommodation we’d booked to sleep

Completed a memory we’ll always keep

So my heartfelt appreciation I’d like to express

My Valentines Night was a complete success!

The Only Way Is Sedlescombe……

So 2013 has begun with Britain’s yearly big freeze. Not ideal for golf, but hey, let’s be positive and no doubt the good weather will be with us soon. I’m sure we are all in the same boat and looking forward to playing in shirt sleeves and having a cool drink outside the clubhouse very soon.

If you haven’t seen it already then the club calendar is on the notice board in the clubhouse with a great range of events for this year. There are a few changes for this year including new events, some old events returning to the fold and also the introduction of member’s competitions on all bank holiday Mondays. These competitions will primarily be pairs events and will no doubt aid the continued development of the social side of the club which improved so much during 2012.

James and I have placed our orders with golf’s top manufacturers for 2013. The addition of Nike alongside the current brands Mizuno and Callaway ensures that there will be plenty of new toys for everyone to have a bash with on the driving range and golf course. I know Hal is already excited about trying to smash Rory’s Nike numbers out of the water with their new super duper red driver. Unlike Rory however, something tells me Hal might not be offered a $200 million dollar contract to use it.

In Greens Restaurant Nathan & Sam have put together an exciting 10 course, yes 10 course, extravaganza for all those wanting to spoil that special someone on the 14^th! Our special Valentines menu brings together the best in local meat and fish and a pianist will be on hand to set the mood for this romantic day.

A couple of achievements of note from members who despite the limited golf being played have had their handicaps dropped significantly. John Eastmond (Jon Jon) was cut from a ridiculous 18 handicap down to 12. You never know. That may quieten him down for a week or two now. Also Lisa Hawkins from 32 down to 26 is a great cut and a long time overdue.

On a personal level I would like to send mine and the clubs best wishes to one of our past captains, Jim Ludlow. Jim has been in hospital now since long before Christmas but is now fighting hard and slowly moving in the right direction on his way to recovery. I can’t wait to see him at the club again soon.

Finally I would just like to thank all of the members for their well wishes and congratulations on the birth of my first child, Ralphy Nicholas Gale. It means a lot and no doubt you will all meet him soon. His first set of clubs are on order!!
